Do you want to improve your pitching performance?

Have you ever had shoulder or elbow pain during or after throwing?

Have you ever injured yourself throwing?

Do you need to improve your velocity, location and movement of all your pitches?

Introducing

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

Pitching injuries continue to rise despite vast improvements in orthopedic, sports medicine and strength and conditioning methods. The clear reason for this is that pitching mechanics are not improving. Bigger, stronger and faster athletes are throwing with poor mechanics causing greater torque and more injuries.

At Velocity RX, our belief is simple. The entire body must work in a sequential manner in order to throw safely and effectively.
Students will learn that the arm is just a steering wheel aiding in location and pitch movement. The real force and power from pitching comes from the legs and torso.

The body uses muscular synergy (partnership) movements to produce all human movements. When these synergy patterns, both good and bad, are replicated, they form muscle memory.

Muscle memory takes many hours of practice and instruction to make any significant change in the pitching or throwing delivery.
At velocity RX, we are serious about safe human movements and biomechanics. We want athletes who are serious about improving. Changing one's mechanics needs time, repetition and perseverance to allow the body to improve and adjust to the new movement patterns.

THE PROGRAM

The Goal:

The overall goal is to throw at least 3 different pitches to all four quadrants of the plate with the greatest amount of force while limiting injury.

The Evaluation:
Each student is given a thorough evaluation using the McGovern Movement Score. Developed by Dr. Kevin J. McGovern, PT, CSCS, the McGovern Movement Score will clearly identify any issue in range of motion, strength, coordination and basic movement patterns that will affect one's delivery, or could be a source of future injury.

The Velocity RX program evaluates the pitching motion on 9 categories. Each category is graded to set a baseline to improve upon.

The Instruction:
20 sessions over 10 weeks will focus on corrective exercise, mechanic re-training and the mental approach to pitching.

The Maintenance:
After the Velocity RX program, each student will be given a maintenance plan to continue to improve on their own.

What Some Athletes are Saying About Velocity RX

"Dr. Kevin J. McGovern, PT, CSCS has the one of the best understandings of throwing mechanics I have ever seen. He has single-handedly reinvented players who have been injured and helpless, as well as provided the solid building blocks for effortless arm action in young players just learning the game.

He helped me. I had a tear in my Ulna Collateral Ligament and Doctors wanted to perform Tommy John Surgery. After working with Kevin, I resumed my professional career as a catcher pain free!

I would advise any player who has the opportunity to spend time with Kevin to relearn one of the most incorrectly taught but most important and necessary fundamentals of baseball, throwing."

Jeremy Booth,
10 Year Professional Baseball
Area Supervisor-South/Central Texas, Louisiana
Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club

"I have spent nine years in professional baseball and played for three major league organizations.

Unfortunately, in the latter part of my career I was plagued with shoulder injuries causing me to have surgery for a torn labrum and rotator cuff. Throughout my rehab I worked with top doctors, PTs, and trainers from these professional organizations.

It wasn't until I met and worked with Dr. Kevin McGovern, PT, CSCS that I began to make significant strides forward in my rehabilitation. Kevin identified the true cause of my shoulder problem. The cause was poor muscle coordination of the muscles around my shoulder blade.

He then took my rehab to another level that I have never seen. He re-trained my mechanics. He showed me that the legs and the trunk are responsible for throwing a baseball. I was able to throw without pain. Although he did not play the game on a professional level, his biomechanical knowledge exceeds anyone I have worked with in my career. Had I met Kevin in my earlier playing days, I am convinced I would never have gotten injured and could be still playing today.

Kevin's techniques and philosophy on throwing is a MUST for every overhead throwing athlete whether you are injured or more importantly, do not want to be injured. "

6th Overall Pick in the 1997 Amateur Draft

"As a catcher at Suffolk University, I injured my shoulder as a junior. I threw in constant pain for the rest of the year. I saw Doctors who referred me for Physical Therapy. I had two different stints with Physical Therapists who work with baseball players. Neither time worked. My shoulder got so bad that I was not able to catch a lot as a Senior.

After my Senior year I was unable to throw. My shoulder would hurt just throwing 40 feet to Little Leaguer's. I thought my baseball career was over.

A friend of mine referred me to Dr. Kevin J. McGovern, PT, CSCS. He examined me and pointed out weakness and poor coordination of the muscles of my shoulder blade area.

We began working on that shoulder blade area with specific exercises at the first visit. On the second and third visits we worked on changing my mechanics. On the fourth visit I played catch from 60 feet without pain!

Each visit I threw harder and harder without pain and without pain the next day! It was unbelievable.

I am writing this testimonial today after throwing 50 balls 130 feet on a rope without pain!

I suggest anyone that has an arm injury or does not want one see Kevin. He will fix you!

He has shown me the bio-mechanics of what it truly means to "throw downhill" and you're "your lower body". These are resounding commands I heard for years. Kevin showed me exactly what these meant on a bio-mechanical platform. Kevin got me throwing pain free after battling pain for 18 months. Unbelievable Results! "

"I'm fitter and have more flexibility than I have had since I was 20. I'm 50 pounds lighter, two shirt sizes and three pants sizes smaller. My cholesterol has dropped dramatically, my blood pressure is a solid 120/80 (from 158/100) and I haven't needed a rescue inhaler since I started
Game 7."
